We are reviewing our policy for Research Travel and the purchases made while conducting the research. As an example, we have several archeological digs in various remote parts of the world where there are no hotels or dependable transportation. How do you all account for the spend on such things as lanterns, cots, shovels, etc.? If the research is multi-year, we try to store those items for the duration of the research because it is cost prohibitive to ship those types of items. Do you list those items as university assets through Procurement/Asset Management? Is anyone willing to share how their university manages these types of travel?
