Hello:

Can you advise if you have a policy or guidelines on a team driving a van, including players as it related to Fatigue and Special rules for Student drivers.

Please include if it is policy or guideline and include the language if permitted.

Thank you
Godfrey Millstone

Hi Godfrey,
Here is the link to the University of Arkansas policy for students traveling by vehicle while representing the University. Scroll to section "II The following procedure, therefore, is established": https://vcfa.uark.edu/fayetteville-policies-procedures/sade/3324.php If you are unable to access the online document let me know. I am unable to speak directly regarding student travel for athletics. My niece, a 2020 grad of U of A Law School works in athletic compliance at University of Central Florida - if you do not find the information you need here, I can reach out to her to see if she can help.
Hope this helps!
Lynda Lloyd, Travel Manager, University of Arkansas School of Law

We do not allow for rentals of 15 passenger vans only 12 passenger vans the University's insurance does not permit the 15 passenger vans. We allow anyone 21 and over drive if the department allows it. Our Student Organizations Resource Center has requirements for the clubs and club sports. https://www.studentaffairs.pitt.edu/sorc/travelpolicies/local-travel/ with what their requirements are for student drivers.

Good morning,
At Texas Tech University, we do not allow 15-passenger vans but they can use a University owned/leased van with very strict guidelines.

(a) Must be at least 20 years of age and have held a valid license;

(b) Must successfully complete a 15-passenger van driver-training course;

(c) Must successfully complete 15-passenger van driver retraining annually;

(d) Must not have more than one moving violation in the last 18 months;

(e) Operators of university vehicles must take a 15-minute break every three hours and may drive no more than ten hours in a 24-hour period. When the vehicle driven is a van with passengers, a second person who remains awake at all times must ride in the front passenger seat.

(e) Must successfully pass a drug test; and

(f) Must complete the "15-Passenger Van Inspection Checklist" (Attachment C) for each trip. The inspection checklist should be kept in the vehicle glove box for the duration of the trip.
