Our university lifted travel restrictions on May 25 and for the most part it has been smooth reentry. We have had some minor issues with international travel & exit requirements. That being said, I was wondering if your institutions are allowing for the cost of re-entry to the United States COVID-19 testing and integrated into your travel and expense policies? I’m specifically interested in learning if your university plans to cover the cost for faculty/staff travel as an allowable expense?
Thank you,

Sabrina,
I can't speak specifically to re-entry testing but UNC has been reimbursing required testing in conjunction with International Travel. As an example, I know at one point in time (and it may still be in effect) that the UK was requiring a test upon entry and a follow-up test after 10 days. We reimbursed for both since the business travel could not have occurred without them.
Thanks,
Rebecca
Hi Sabrina,
We will cover the cost, but first the traveler needs to provide documentation of non-coverage by their insurer. Here's some language from our draft policy:
Before a traveler seeks reimbursement from the University for travel medicine or testing, the traveler should exhaust reimbursement options through their existing health insurance coverage and provide documentation of non-coverage by their health insurance provider.
I hope that's helpful!
Sally
@RebeccaSpanos and @SallyParsons - thank you so much - this is incredibly helpful information.
Michigan State University has not set policy but reimburses on a case by case basis if the traveler requests such.
