How does your University handle an air credit in an employee's name and the employee leaves employment before the credit can be used or is expired?
Here are some scenarios we have been thinking about but thought we’d check how others may be handling the credits.
* Require the traveler to pay back the University since the credit for the event is in the person’s name
* Write off the expense as a sunk cost
* Tax the individual as a benefit
* Require written confirmation that the employee will not use the benefit
- And if this is the case, how will you confirm the credit was not used?
Note: our air volume is not sufficient enough to warrant airline contracts. So, we do not have the ability to change names on these credits and use them for other employees. Also, we have approx 15 UA credits on hand ($7K+) that expire 12/31/2022. Unfortunately, effective 1/1/2022, UA is no longer servicing our regional airport.
I appreciate any feedback you might have!
