Good Thursday afternoon SCTEM members,

Within the framework of sustainability, we are trying to determine the best course forward on our travelers renting fully electric cars. The following are the first pass at the perceived advantages and disadvantages. If the community can respond with their own analysis, lived and learned experiences, and if your policy allows renting electric cars, it would be helpful in our planning and policy decisions.

Advantages
Carbon footprint and noise reduction
Travelers are curious
Lower and more predictable refueling costs
Good availability in most rental locations

Challenges
Limited and/or unavailable charging stations (requiring advance planning)
Charging stations located in paid garages
Idle fee
Pre/post refueling charges, what are they?
Unfamiliar controls and displays
Battery fire risks
Exceeds policy class
