Our policy currently does not allow for Restricted / Non-refundable tickets and our travelers want to purchase the cheapest tickets.
In your booking tool do you show and not allow the purchase of restricted tickets. We are reviewing our policy and are considering allowing them to be purchased.
Has anyone changed their policy to allow restricted tickets to be purchased on the Corporate Card? What were your results?
Good Morning.
Michigan State University suppresses displaying fare types that are non-changeable/non-refundable - example: Basic Economy.
Cheers, Ed
Majority of our client, show but do not allow. We performed tests with some larger clients and noticed that 99% of travelers do not want/need the restricted airfare, which we all know could financially impact budgets if a change is required, (costing more than the savings the traveler initially was trying to obtain) and create a negative traveler experience. Because of this, we show but do not allow. To book these fares the travelers call the agents, so the agent is able to discuss not only the restrictions of the fares, but also provide more options. My question is what is driving this consideration? Traveler feedback? Budget controls? I hope this helps!
UNC-Chapel Hill does allow Basic Economy fares to be booked, however they are marked as out of policy in our OBT. If you attempt to purchase a Basic Economy fare, you have to acknowledge a pop-up regarding the rules and restrictions of booking Basic Economy to ensure travelers know what they're getting into. We decided to set it up this way so that employees can see all the fare options and avoid confusion over "cheaper" pricing they may see in third-party booking sites. It also allows the budget-conscious traveler to take advantage of the lower fares but have a full understanding into what they're purchasing.
At UCAR, our booking tool (Concur) does not show these fares. Travelers are free to book them outside of Concur using a personal payment method, but policy states that the traveler "owns" airfare purchased on their own, so they're on the hook for the charges if something happens and the ticket can't be used.
